Centuries spent at the same craft tends to produce the patina of professionalism that enriches every project undertaken and every surface touched.
Anton Sattler learned his craft the old-fashioned way, by apprenticing to master craftsmen in his native Germany. In his early 20’s, he left Europe for New York City. As word of the young painter’s skills spread, he began receiving commissions to paint and restore the homes of many of the City’s preeminent families—Auchincloss, Roosevelt, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt—and in 1891 he founded the painting and restoration company, Anton Sattler Inc.
What impressed people then, as it does today, was the company’s ability to make new rooms appear as if they’d always been there.
Now, during our third century in business, the fourth generation of Anton Sattler’s descendants continue his legacy by working with only the finest European artisans who paint, stencil, polish, glaze, gild, hang wallcovering and restore rooms the way he did: with infinite care, attention to detail and pride.
